(This
episode starts at 04:26 in and runs to 53:19)
A family are out in the countryside. A husband and wife are arguing. The wife Sonja tells her husband Rene that she wanted to have kids with him, but he‘s hopping from one bed to another, having four “little affairs“ this year. He says he‘s heard that she‘s been to see a Divorce Lawyer.
Suddenly, a masked gunman attacks the family, first by blowing up their jeep with a portable cannon. Then he kidnaps Sonja from the family at gunpoint.
Max, the Medicopter 117 Mechanic, gives Dr Karin Thaler a bouquet to thank her for having a word with a Medicopter service manaager which has resulted in him not being transferred to a service centre like all the other Medicopter mechanics.
Suddenly the Medicopter 117 team are called to an emergency where there are two injured people. As you might have guessed the emergency is the family who Sonja has been kidnapped from. One man needs urgent attention at the scene in case his condition worsens.
Meanwhile, back at the Medicopter 117 base a job ad is put up on a noticeboard, indicating that the organisation‘s whole structure is going to be reorganised. Dr Karin Thaler is told to go to a meeting immediately.
At the emergency scene, the Police turn up led by a detective called Heller, but the family members say they want to co operate with the kidnapper, otherwise they‘ll be putting Sonja‘s life in danger.
Dr Thaler arrives at the “urgent“ meeting, where the same Manager she met before tells her he‘s very impressed by her and how she stuck up for her colleagues. He offers her a promation to Head of their whole Medical Department, but he seems to want something in return.
Meanwhile, the kidnapper gets into anotherr vehicle with Sonja and handcuffs her to the back of the Driving Seat.
At the meeting, the Manager tells Dr Thaler “Eine Hand wäscht die andere“ (You scratch my back and I‘ll scratch yours). When Dr Thaler asks what he wants in return, he runs one finger down her cheek. She tells him “I‘m not interested in your offer, or in you!“, then walks out.
Medicopter 117 drops off an injured family member at a hospital.
The Police install a recording machine on the family‘s land line, ready for when the kidnapper phones.
However, the kidnapper seems to be some kind of telephone engineer. His van is painted with a telephone company name. He stops, in a remote spot then goes over to a junction box, opens it, plugs in an engineering handset, then calls the family. He greets Herr Neudeck and the Police who he says he knows are there, then demands €5,000,000 in small unmarked notes. Herr Neudeck says it will be difficult to get that amount together, but the kidnapper tells him to get the money from his secret account which he uses for bribes in the far east. Detective Heller tells the kidnapper that before any money is paid they demand evidence that Sonja is still alive. The kidnapper says he‘ll provide this, then ends the call. The Police couldn‘t trace the call. Heller advises the family to get the money ready, but that he doesn‘t care where it comes from.
Medicopter 117 returns to base, where we see a Pilot‘s daughter has come to visit him. She announces that she wants to become a paramedic after a Medicopter 117 paramedic Florian Lenz has told her all about it. Her Dad doesn‘t look too pleased about this.
Sonja manages to pull the seat headrest off, then whacks her kidnapper over the head with it several times! This causes him to lose control of the van which runs off the road and down a hill, turning over in the process. This is witnessed by a lorry driver. He only sees the kidnapper who tells him no one is injured, but in spite of this he calls for help. The kidnapper calls an accomplice to tell them what‘s happened and that he thinks they‘ll have to call everything off. We then see that the accomplice is Sonja‘s husband Rene! The kidnapper says that Sonja‘s obviously hurt, but he has no idea how badly. He tells the kidnapper, who he calls “Beckle“ that if they don‘t get the ransom money, then he can‘t pay him, end of discussion, or in other words “Kein Lösegeld, keine Kohle. Ende der Durchsage“. The lorry driver shouts out that the emergency Doctor and Police are on their way, but he‘s coming down to help anyway. He asks if his “wife“ is also injured, but he pretends Sonja isn‘t hurt. He bandages Beckle‘s knee telling him that it should last til the Doctor arrives, but then Beckle whacks him over the head with his gun so he can go off in his lorry.
At Medicopter 117 base the rest of the crew tell the Pilot that he shouldn‘t interfere with his daughter‘s plans to become a paramedic. The new duty roster is posted and Dr Karin Thaler returns. She says the meeting wasn‘t about anything important. Then the Medicopter 117 crew get another emergency call.
Medicopter 117 arrives at the scene where Beckle is moving Sonja to the lorry. He pretends to be the lorry driver, then tells them he‘s not sure what happened, but suddenly the van apppeared, it fell down the hill and this woman was lying there. Dr Thaler assesses Sonja‘s injuries. She says she has a ruptured spleen which was caused by her being tied up. Beckle says he doesn‘t know anything about that, but then the Paramedic Florian Lenz notices a logo on the back of his jacket which matches the crashed van, proving that he was the van driver, not the lorry driver. He then pulls out his gun and tells them to take her into the helicopter, then he gets in with them, pointing his gun. There are now Police cars arriving nearby. Beckle tells Dr Thaler that she must treat Sonja, but she says that she needs an operation, there‘s not enough room and she hasn‘t got the equipment. Dt Thaler says she knows where rthere‘s an abandoned practice with facilities which they can use, so that‘s what they decide to do.
Back at the family home, the Police pass on news of the crash and the Medicopter 117 crew who they say are now hostages, but that it‘ not clear what will happen now. The €5,000,000 arrives in the house.
At the abandoned facility Beckle kicks the locked door in. Dr Thaler says she‘ll do the bet she can. Beckle tells them if this woman dies, then you‘ll all die! He phones the family home from his mobile. He demands to speak to Sonja‘s husband. He tells him that he must bring the money all alone. He tells him his wife is now being operated on, but that afterwards he‘ll get proof that she‘s alive.
Sonja‘s situation is desperate. Dr Thaler says that her spleen must be removed and she doubts she‘ll survive, especially due to the risk of massive blood loss and their lack of plasma to replace it. Gina the Pilot gets some more equipment from the helicopter and points out the radio telephone antenna to Beckle so he can cut it off. Sonja‘s heart stops, It seems for a little while that she can‘t be revived. Beckle shouts “She‘s dead!“, but the Medicopter 117 team say she‘s not. All of a sudden, Sonja‘s heart starts beating again!
At the family home, Heller says that the ransom money has been treated to produce a chemical reaction after 48 hours, then become worthless and lead them to Beckle‘s whereabouts. Sonja‘s husband sees that this means the money will be no use to him, so he tells them he doesn‘t think this is a good idea. What if Beckle notices? The Police detective says this has been done with a new method taking anyone hours to notice that anything‘s wrong. Immediately after this, Sonja‘s husband texts Beckle to tell him the ransom money has been treated.
Beckle phones and tells them he thinks the money has been treated, so instead of money he wants something of the same €5,000,000 value. Sonja‘s husband says that thery have nothing like that apart from a few diamonds worth only half that amount. Beckle accepts this offer. He tells him to get into a car, without any Police following him, then drive south. He leaves the house, but it seems he takes the wrong phone with him, because there‘s a an identical Nokia phone lying on the same table. The Police say they‘ll follow at a safe distance, but the father asks if they‘re mad!
Beckle calls Rene, but her Dad answers. He gives her Dad the location to meet up, thinking he‘s talking to Rene instead. Her Dad hangs up without answering. Beckle thinks he‘s lost the signal. Rene husband phones Beckle asking where to meet up. He says he‘s already told him, but gives details again. This sequence of events depends on the old Nokia mobile phones having identical displays, as well as them remembering each others‘ numbers, instead of having them stored as contacts, and not looking at the screen to check who‘s calling!
Rene gets out of the car in a field holding the bag containing diamonds, when a heicopter suddenly lands. He gets blown over by the wind it makes. It turns out to be Sonja‘s Dad‘s helicopter instead of Medicopter 117. Her Dad tells him his game‘s up and throws his mobile phone at him, showing how he found out.
Beckle sees what‘s happened, then tells the Medicopter 117 crew not to land, but turn around instead. Beckle manages to continue to hold the crew hostage, then phones Rene with an updated plan that he brings the diamonds to him in the other helicopter with just the Pilot accompanying him. Rene is soon overpowered and held at gunpoint by Sonja‘s Dad and bodyguard, then they try to hide in the back seats to go and get Sonja back.
In an amazing twist of events, after Sonja‘s Dad‘s helicopter lands, the bodyguard gets knocked on the head by one of Medicopter 117‘s landing skis, then Rene grabs his gun and regains control. The diamonds are exchanged, but then Beckle decides to take them all for himself, kicking Rene to the ground, then going off in Medicopter 117 with just the Pilot.
Sonja‘s husband is determined to get his share of the diamonds, so then he points his gun and takes the other helicopter, piloted by Sonja‘s Dad! In the chase, Beckle is overpowered and drops the bag of diamonds out of the door, but the other helicopter keeps coming. Rene wants to kill Beckle before picking up the diamonds! After a few manoeuvres, Rene suddenly falls out of the heicopter to his death!
Beckle is overpowered, tied up and gagged by the Medicopter 117 crew, then arrested after landing. Sonja has survived the worst of it, but still needs to go to hospital.
At the end, Dr Thaler, Gina, and a Florian are discussing what‘s just happened. Florian says “We‘re a good team, aren‘t we?“, then Dr Thaler pulls him out of the helicopter, gets in and flies off with just Gina, saying „“Wir haben was vor!“ (We‘ve got plans), although there‘s no real indication what these plans are. Finally, they wave each other Goodbye.
Look and learn!
The main cause of isolationism in Britain is the extreme censorship of the mass media, according to language. This means a lack of TV orogrammes, films magazines, or books in other languages. It leads to an attitude of "these foreigners", meaning people who they don't know much about.
