Medicopter 117: “Heisser Schnee“ (Hot Snow) Episode Summary

(To help you follow the video, I‘ve put times in brackets showing where the description has got up to)

**This Episode runs from 02:10- 55.08 in the video file!**

A man is flying a private propeller driven plane, but suddenly gets into trouble! He calls Munich Tower Air Traffic Control for help, but it seems that even they can‘t help him. He parachutes out of the plane, which then crashes into a cliff face, but his parachute doesn‘t help him enough, due to a shockwave from the explosion, then he falls to the ground, breaking his leg against a rock!

Meanwhile, back at Medicopter 117 base, three members of the crew (Mark, Jens, and Peter) are chatting about and comparing their mountain climbing skills and getting ready for a mountaineering trip, then the base gets another emergency call, which is only attended by other members of the crew who aren‘t about to go mountaineering. The whole team is also planning a works celebration and suggesting possible venues for it.

The Medicopter 117 crew members Mark, Jens, and Peter are setting out on their mountainineering trip. One of them suggests climbing the southern face, but another one says they‘d never even considered that route before. (07.03)

We suddenly see two men hanging round outside a car parked in the middle of some mountains, looking fishy. The car has a white sheet on the roof with a red X painted on it. One of them talks to someone on his mobile phone. He mentions the southern face. He tells his mate that the plane has crashed. (08.06)

Medicopter 117 arrives at the scene where the Pilot who‘s broken his leg has landed. They quickly treat him, then fly him away from the scene for treatment at Rosenheim Clinic. (12.05)

Mark, Jens, and Peter arrive at their destination for the mountaining trip. Little do they know that the two dodgy men arrive in their car somewhere nearby at about the same time. One of them is holding some kind of tracker device which indicates that whatever they‘re looking for is 3.33Km away! (13.26)

The Medicopter 117 mountaineers stop for a break, and something to eat, shouting “Zeit für eine Rast, ich hab‘ Hunger!“ (“Time for a rest, I‘m hungry!“), (13.59) They each shout “Mahlzeit!“ (“Mealtime!“) Meanwhile, the two men with the tracker are getting closer to their goal, but they‘re also hungry. They change into mountaineering gear. The Medicopter 117 mountainers try to guess what their Boss‘s middle initial E in the name Gunnar E Höppler stands for.

The two men have got a long, steep climb to reach some Cocaine worth €2,000,000 which they plan to pick up. Little do they know that the three Medicopter 117 mountainers are climbing up the same face of the same mountain at the same time!

One of the two drug dealers, called Will, falls part of the way down the mountain. This is witnessed by the Medicopter 117 group, who go over to help him. They manage to lower him down onto a ledge before his accomplice comes down to join them.

Mark (in red) of the Medicopter 117 team tells the other drug dealer that he‘s a Doctor. He asks what happened, then his accomplice says he went on ahead, tried to secure his mate, but he doesn‘t really know as it was all so quick. Mark says his injuries are serious, namely concussion, a cracked skull, broken shin, and two broken ribs on the right hand side. They tell him they‘d better phone their colleagues as they‘re all Medicopter staff. Jens (in yellow) makes the call to Max who passes it on to Gina. Unfortunately, the helicopter has a faulty auto pilot which is removed for urgent repair. Gina takes off with the Paramedic Florian Lenz and Dr Karin Thaler, but without the Auto Pilot.

Meanwhile on the mountain, the other Medicopter 117 team members tell the uninjured drug dealer to get some water out of a rucksack, then spot that he has a gun in his jacket pocket. When he realises they‘re seen it, he draws it out, points it at  them, then tells them to stay down and not move! (23.02)

The armed drug dealer promises not to hurt the Medicopter 117 members on the mountain so long as their helicopter picks up his accomplice. He warns them his gun contains 6 bullets, which makes 2 for each of them!

Florian gets lowered down onto the mountain ledge with a medical kit. Peter writes the word “HILFE!“ (HELP!) on a notebook for treatments and patient‘s notes, then leaves it in the medical bag Florian brought with him. After Jens tells Florian to take that bag with him, the injured drug  dealer and Florian are lifted off the mountain by Medicopter 117. (27.34)

Meanwhile back on the mountain, the armed drug dealer says the Medicopter 117 colleagues are very professional, but so is he. He tells them at gunpoint to throw their mobile phones off the mountain ledge, so they do. (35.20) He tells tell they must help him to pick up a package, but refuses to tell them what kind of package.

Medicopter 117 is nearing its destination. On the mountain ledge the armed drug dealer chooses Jens to go and fetch the package, but Mark offers to go instead because his colleague hasn‘t had enough training. The drug dealer rejects this, saying it‘s his chance to get some training! (37.06)

Meanwhile, Medicopter 117 drops off the injured drug dealer at a medical facility. Dr Karin Thaler says he has a suspected concussion.

Back on the mountain, Jens is being forced to climb up the mountain, tied by a long line to the gunman. While the gunman is distracted watching him, Mark and Peter try to overpower him, but then he shoots Mark in the leg and maintains his control over them, telling them to hold still. (38.47)

The gunman suddenly cuts Mark‘s line, causing him to fall down the mountain! (39.13)

At the hospital, Florian tells one of the Doctors there that the injured drug dealer must have fallen about 50 metres. Dr Karin Thaler rips off the sheet describing the patient‘s treatment from the pad, which reveals the note calling for help, written previously by their colleague Peter on the mountain. She immediately shows it to Florian. (39.51)  They quickly rush back into Medicopter 117 which takes off. (40.12)

Jens is still climbing the mountain to get the package, while below them Mark is lying further down the mountain, possibly with a broken leg. Between them, the other two are waiting for the package. (40.51)

Jens finds the package and ties it to himself. (42.24) The drug dealer suddenly starts throwing a fit, just because he loses sight of Jens for a few seconds, then tries to pull him down the mountain! (42.43)

Approaching the mountain, Gina suddenly shouts “Mark ist verletzt! Jens ist in Schwierigkeiten!“ (“Mark‘s injured! Jens is in difficulty!“) Dr Thaler sees the armed drug dealer trying to pull Jens down the mountain.

Medicopter 117 is hovering nearby. The drug dealer takes aim at them, but the other Medicopter 117 crew member points out that he can‘t watch everone. “Denk Dich mal dran. Wenn Du das Ding nur eine Sekunde wegnimmst, dann bist Du dran“ (“Just think. If you‘re distracted for just a second, then your time‘s up!“ Suddenly, Jens manages to untie the line connected him to the drug dealer, so this means he‘s escaped from him! (43.44)

Dr Thaler tells Florian to get an emergency medical kit in a rucksack and put a walkie talkie into it, then lower it down to Mark, then they‘ll go and rescue Jens. (44.03)

Gina calls Medicopter HQ and asks them to call the Police. Jens is managing to hold onto the mountain without any line to help them, then Florian is lowered down to pick him up. (45.37)

Florian grabs Mark, then they‘re both pulled up to Medicopter 117. The armed drug dealer threatens to shoot Peter, but he says “Das wurde ich nicht tun. Ich bin Deine letzte Geisel. Ohne mich kein Koks“ (“I wouldn‘t do that.I‘m your last hostage. No Coke without me“). (46.35)

Mark opens the medical rucksack and grabs the walkie talkie.  He says that he‘ll be alright for the moment as he can treat himself, so he tells Gina that first of all they must get Peter to safety. Gina tells him to hang on. (47.11)

The gunman grabs Peter, points a gun at his head and shouts out “OK, wie soll es Jetzt weiter gehen?“ (OK, what are we supposed to do now?“) Jens, shouting down from the helicopter suggests that they exchange the package of Cocaine for Peter, but if he doesn‘t agree, then he‘ll open the package and all the Cocaine will just blow away in the wind. The gunman agrees to the exchange. (47.31)

The package is lowered down on what looks like a stretcher, but then Peter manages to grab it and shouts “What now?“ He either doesn‘t trust the gunman, or wants to make sure he doesn‘t get his Cocaine. There‘s a struggle between them two of them., then suddenly they‘re both hanging from the package in mid air on a line from Medicopter 117! Gina flies to a clearing, where they both lose their grip and the drug dealer loses his gun. (50.17) Jens jumps off the helicopter and grabs the drug dealer, they roll over and the drug dealer manages to get his gun back, then points it at Jens! (50.31) He says that now he‘ll have to shoot both of them as a matter of principle. At that moment, Medicopter 117 flies past and hits him on the back with a weight on the end of a line, knocking him down to the ground. After this, his  two former hostages jump on him and tie him up. (51.18)

After all this, they have to go and pick up Mark, who‘s still lying on the mountain. Dr Thaler asks what Mark‘s blood group is, then they tell her AB Negative. This is the rarest of the standard A, B, and O positive and negative blood groups. None of the others has this blood group, but Gina is O Negative, which Dr Thaler points out can be donated to anyone with another Negative blood group.

Jens flies Medicopter 117 to pick up Mark, while Dr Karin Thaler takes blood from Gina. (52.45)

Florian is lowered down to Mark, then they‘re both pulled up. Jens radios ahead to a medical facility with an intensive care unit, asking them to prepare for a patient who‘s lost a lot of blood. (53.06)

Later on, they finally have the works do, attended by Medicopter 117 crew members, Max the Mechanic, and their local base Manager Gunnar. It‘s been a week since Mark went into hospital. Max says they should have waited until Mark was back on his feet, bu the Manager says he  phoned and Mark insisted they should go ahead without him. At that moment, Medicopter 117 suddenly lands, then Mark appears, accompanied by Gina. Max and Gunnar can‘t help crying over this!

Finally, Mark asks Gunnar on behalf of everone what the E in the middle of his name stands for. He tells them it‘s for Eros, then everyone bursts out laughing! (55.08 END)
